What is Journalism & Communication?
There are many people who take an interest in journalism and communication and there are many areas covered. Journalism is the way that events are passed on to the public and a trained journalist will have a good technique when it comes to getting information.
A journalist may work for a newspaper, magazine or TV station, but the sort of work they will be very much the same. The person will find out what the event has been, the major details and important points of the story, and also put it together so as it is informative or enjoyable for the people who read or watch it. There are rules and regulations that govern the industry and as can be seen by the phone hacking trials that are taking place in Great Britain in 2013/14 breaches are taken seriously as there has been a number of prison sentences handed down.
While many parts of the world are seeing a downturn in the sale of hardcopy papers, there are digital additions and the role of a journalist is still needed.
Communication will cover a range of ways in which information is disseminated to the public once the facts have been uncovered. Journalism is covered, but there is also broadcasting, and advertising. Magazines will have a combination of the two as they will publish many articles, but also show adverts and get a message across that way.
Mass media is important when it comes to relaying information around the world and everyone will want to have access to the news as it is broadcast. Newspapers will want to reach their target audience as quickly as possible though news broadcasts will usually be there first. The hope is to affect so many people at the same time, meaning that there is a real impact as a result of the story.
Communication covers all the ways that the stories are told – TV, written word, radio and online.
